Recent update…June 2010 Brian Smith is named as an advisor for the American Express OPEN division called InsuranceEdge.

Brian Smith is a commercial insurance professional that utilizes the risk reconnaissance program to positively impact his clients. His sales focus is concentrated on general business risks that are interested in risk reduction and safety enhancement techniques. Brian is well versed on Government Contractor insurance requirements for those providing support to the rebuilding efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as foreign security and aviation risks.

Since beginning his insurance career in 1991, Brian has involved himself in various problem solving exercises throughout the insurance industry. With an initial emphasis on safety and loss control, Mr. Smith has grown to meet the needs and challenges of his clients with deliberate professional development. And in doing so, developed a method of risk reduction that enhances the value of the insurance purchase. Working with hundreds of companies over the past two decades, he has witnessed the positive changes both to the safety culture and overall company bottom line that is associated with risk and hazard identification and subsequent correction.

The risk profile model employed by Brian is one built on technical capabilities (Certified Safety Professional, CSP), analytics, and service delivery. Understanding the client needs, business operations, and overall financial growth plan is critical to client satisfaction, respect, and retention. Working as needed and hand-in-hand with financial and legal professionals, his practice serves the needs of his clients from more than one perspective.

In addition to business accomplishments, Brian has also proudly served his country with the US Army.

Enlisting in 1985, Brian Smith began his Army career as a surgical technician. Following his 1989 commissioning, he served for over 14 years in the Michigan Army National Guard and the US Army Reserves, retiring as a captain in the US Army Ordnance Corps. Mr. Smith also attended the US Army Chemical Officer Advanced Course.

Brian graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and as a brother of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, Gamma Tau Chapter.
