Atlanta Fire Rescue: Gets $12,152 Toward Fire Detector Replacement

“When we heard about the smoke detector recall facing the Atlanta department of fire and rescue, this leaps out at us as an ideal way to help,” Brian Smith, an executive with Wells Fargo’s insurance services unit, said in his remarks at the news conference. “We are delighted to direct this money to the purchase of 1,500 smoke detectors.”

Since the recall began, the department will have replaced 400 of the defective alarms, including Saturday’s efforts.

CBS Atlanta: Corporate donation made to replace counterfeit smoke detectors

“Everyone needs a smoke detector. What a horrible situation so to have a situation to make it right in some way shape or form, it’s exactly what we were looking to do,” said Brain Smith with Wells Fargo Insurance Services.

Every other weekend the fire department will replace the fake smoke detectors with good ones. They started two weeks ago and with the help of the donation, they’ll do it again on Saturday.

Wells Fargo Insurance Services employees will also help distribute the smoke detectors. They’ll make an official check presentation Saturday morning and then they’ll get to work.
